planning

Last night I met with Bride and Groom 1 to talk about the cupcakes for their August wedding. Since I’ve never had a wedding it was pretty exciting hearing about the details and what they want. I gave them some ideas for how we could display the cupcakes and decorate them, and they seemed to like the ideas. Now I need to put together a quote for them – and this is, by far, the hardest part for me. I generally tend to low ball to ensure the sale and I’m really trying to get away from that so that I don’t keep chipping away at my profits.

So, if any of you reading have had a wedding for, say, 150-175 people and would be willing to look at my quote before I send it that would be fabulous. I know that I’ll come in at less than a traditional wedding cake, but I want to make sure I get this right. I really want to do this wedding reception, as it will be my first.

Planning for the end of September/early October trip to Disney with the fam is in full-force now. Since it seems likely that Mr. D will be coming, and yes – meeting the whole family – I’ve been looking for a place we can stay that will cater to both of our desires and still allow for family time. D and I both love pools and we’d really like to stay somewhere with a swim-up bar. The rest of the family is all staying at Disney, but after exploring those hotels I’m just not sure that’s what I want to do. I found a resort that’s reasonably priced and has an amazing pool – and Mr. D liked it, too, so that might be our choice, but I’ll keep looking. That place also has a full kitchen, meaning I can make us breakfast in our room and save some money there. By room I really mean 2BR condo, which is entirely too big for us, but whatevs.

I’m pretty slammed at work after having 4 days off, but I feel so rejuvenated that it doesn’t even bother me. But still I think I’d like to go on a date with Mr. D tonight. I’ve missed him.

Disney World!!! I loved that place as a kid. I hope to go back in the near future so I can enjoy with adult beverages. LOL Mr. D is meeting the fam? That’s major!

Sorry I can’t offer any advice on the reception quote. I haven’t a clue.

I’d take a look at your quote- although cake is CHEAP in Wichita. You might do better talking to a wedding consultant and getting a range of the per-person cost for Atlanta, bearing in mind that without decorations etc. you will prob be toward lower end of that range. Although, fillings add up and different flavors + fillings run at a premium as well (like if you did the tiers in dif flavors).

So exciting! I cannot WAIT to hear more about your cupcake display ideas : D

You could also check out local bakeries (via web or phone call) and get their pricing on wedding cupcakes. That way you can make sure you position yourself at a competitive (and lucrative!) price point. I quickly learned when planning my wedding, that if you slap “Wedding” on anything it’s an automatic upcharge (good for the vendor, bad for the bride). Good Luck!!
So happy that Mr. D will be joining you in Disney!! I’ll have to let Kim Lee know…she’ll be so excited too!

A few of my friends have done cupcakes and paid about $2-3 per cupcake versus $5-7 per slice of wedding cake. That is in IL and AZ, though.

They had custom colored liners. One did red velvet and the other did carrot. They both had large tiers that arranged them like a wedding cake. One nice thing the one did differently, though, was they had a small cake on top so they still had the traditional cake cutting.

By the way, the bakeries they used also recommended 2-3 cupcakes per guest!
