hours wasted

I’ve never been a big fan of movies.  It’s hard for me to sit still for too long and I get bored easily.  Funny thing is I probably own more movies than most people I know, but they’re pretty much all romantic comedies, with a few other randoms thrown in…mostly kids movies for when I was trying to entertain the children in my life.  I always blamed my hatred of movie watching on Ex-Husband.  I swear to jesiis every single day he’d come home from work and check IFC and Sundance first, then the premium channels, to see if there were any movies on he wanted to watch.  Bleh.  It annoyed the crap out of me.  Yeah, I hadn’t gotten to the “pick your battles” stage of life yet.

Lately I’ve been watching a lot of movies.  Mr. D loves watching them and he’s gotten me into it.  I used to go to his house and in my head I’d be thinking “I soo hope we don’t have to watch another fucking movie tonight”.  Last night, as soon as he sat down on the couch next to me, I asked him to find us a movie to watch.  Partially this is because I’ve ended up watching some movies with him that I’d have never picked out and turned out to be good.  Partially because there’s really nothing else to watch right now and we both love to be lazy on the couch.

The night before I was supposed to leave for South Florida we watched Dear John because I’d finally finished reading the book and wanted to see it.  The book was decent, the moved sucked monkey ass.  That night we also watched Chloe…which was actually pretty good up until the ending when it just didn’t deliver what it could have.

Monday night I watched Up in the Air, which I had very low expectations for, but ended up really liking.  I’ve become a fan of endings I don’t expect and this was definitely one of them.  And George Clooney is never hard to look at.

Last night we watched He’s on My Mind, which was hee-fuckin-larious. Now, it’s not a comedy, so it’s not funny ha-ha.  It’s funny like – who the hell sat at the table and agreed that this would be a good movie to make?  The acting was piss-poor.  The writing was even worse.  But we seriously laughed our asses off because it was soooo bad.  Train wreck bad.  And we finished it, even though the movie didn’t quite finish itself…bad, bad, bad.  But my stomach hurt from laughing so hard.  Seriously.

Then we watched another suck-fest, My Life in Ruins.  It was semi-entertaining for a few minutes, but for the most part just stupid.  I am not a movie critic by any means, either.  I don’t need an epic picture or anything deep.  I just want to be entertained for an hour and a half.  Seems like lately most movies are 2+ hours of crap.

So go ahead… suggest a movie you think I probably haven’t seen yet.  If it’s a romantic comedy I probably have, but you can try anyway.  I need some movies to watch this weekend and just discovered the joy that is redbox.

Mistah and I caught a really good movie this weekend on tv called ‘Away We Go’ ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1176740/ ) starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. Neither of us had ever heard of this movie before but really enjoyed it.

Book of Eli – Denzel Washington. I’m not particulalry a fan of him, but I liked this movie. Kept my attention the entire time.
Fantastic Mr Fox – George Clooney and Meryle Streep – supposed to be direct towards kids, but I think E and I liked it better than lil E. Watch it. And then you’ll cuss. ;)

We watched The Crazies last night. Not sure if it is out on DVD yet (‘cuz The Mister is good with finding bootlegs online LOL) but it was a good flick.

I’m not much of a movie watcher either but the ex definitely was so many evenings I sat on the couch falling asleep EVERY TIME LOL.

The last movie I saw was I am Sam and I cried all the way through!!!

I did like Inglourious basterds, The Princess and the Frog, and the Invention of lying though.

    Side Note:
THANK YOU again for the cupcakes. They were a hit and so yummy!!!!! I had my sister (major sweets lover) taste the Better than Sex with the chocolate and yellow cake and she liked the chocolate better. I trust her judgement.

An oldie but a goodie – Lost in Translation. I’m not a movie person either, but I’ve seen this a number of times because I love it.

I just watched Sherlock Holmes last weekend and thought it was good. I actually stayed awake for the entire movie, which is pretty amazing. My next Netflix is (500) days of Summer, which I am excited about, so hopefully it’s good.

Oh, and i just read the synopsis for He’s on My Mind, and it sounds exactly like the opposite perspective of What Women Want. How original. But if you like that kind of movie, watch this one: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/watermelon_heist/

It was kinda like What Women Want, only it made WWW look like movie of the year. We only chose it because he has seen pretty much every movie in the world…now we know why he hadn’t seen this one, but we seriously did laugh our asses off the entire time.
