I just got a call from someone who wants to order 1000 cookies for next week. Yes, cookies. Not the special hand-decorated kind…just plain old cookies. My problem is this – how do I price them? Anyone here buy cookies at a bakery and know what they charge? I have looked online a bit, but want input. I don’t want to low-ball, but I also don’t want to over-charge. Ideas? Suggestions? Please?

1.50 per cookie
Make sure they pre-pay!!!
Oh darling – of course I will! And I will not allow them to post-date that check :)
Wait, just saw the quantity. That’s a lot. How about 75 cents a cookie. Gosh, that’s a lot of money.
And a LOT of cookies! Thanks for volunteering everyone to help Saturday night!
OMG if you don’t prepay I will never speak to you again!
I checked a couple bakeries in town and they list $1.99/cookie — although for an order that large I’m sure they would give a discount.
Most important? Calculate your cost and desired profit first! It doesn’t matter if a number sounds reasonable as a price quote if you are not covering materials, overhead, labor, and profit first! Gotta build that business, baby ; )
Don’t forget profit. Profit, profit, profit. It’s a magic word. THE magic word if you want to see a cute cupcake on the handle of the door to your own bakery ; )
Anne, you’re so damn smart :) I knew you would come with a good answer here!
ditto what Anne said.
Yep, agree wholeheartedly with Anne. Make sure the numbers work for you to make a profit. If they don’t accept the price, this order wasn’t meant to be fulfilled by you.
My main supplier just added cookies to their list – brownies.com. Check out their cookie pricing. Also, Cheryl’s Cookies has standard pricing. They’re amazing.
Anne is on point. Good suggestion there
