My heart skipped a couple beats when I saw him walking out of the building toward my truck. I jumped out to grab the cupcakes, hoping to just hand them to him and run like a really fast cat in the jungle. “Heyyy buddy!” he said and I looked up at him. He had a smirk on his face.
“Hey. What’s the smirk for?”
“Huh? Nothin.” He tried to play it off, but he was definitely smirking. I handed him the box and he moved a little closer to me. I didn’t bother taking my sunglasses off even though it wasn’t sunny at all. I needed to hide my eyes.
I gave him a half smile as he started telling me something he’d been doing at work when I got there. I looked him up and down as he spoke. He looked older, not as cute. But he was the same calm, sweet, ever-a-good-man-and-friend Mr. D that I’d fallen in love with. When he finished he reached toward me with his empty arm and pulled me to him tightly. I gave him my right side and kinda patted his back like I wasn’t sure what to do. I didn’t want to move. He felt nice.
“Do you have more deliveries to make?” He asked. Obviously he’d seen the other boxes in my backseat.
“Yeah, I have two more.”
“Ahhh…well I’ll let you get to them.” We stood looking at each other for a few seconds in silence, then I looked to the ground. “I’ll talk to you later,” he said, then added “Ms. Monroe!” My dress had been blowing in the wind and I was trying to hold it down.
“Alright.” I smiled at that as I got back into the Jeep and prepared to leave, noticing the way he turned to look back at me when he got to the door. My heart ached a little, but I’d already shed my tears, so I just turned up my ipod and sang along as I made my way through traffic to my next destination.
I cannot tell a lie. I very much wanted to spend more time with him.
I think it’d be really odd if you didn’t feel that way after having such a strong connection with someone. But you can tell you’re stronger and moving on. Because even though you wanted to spend more time with him, you didn’t.
I’m proud of you! See you soon??
Yes, please!
Ok, so you know how you have a visual when you think of Seal? I think it’s high time Mr. D have one of his own too!

LMAO!! You….just…..yeahhhh
“I gave him my right side and kinda patted his back like I wasn’t sure what to do.” <<– polite church hug (and I don't even go to church), LOL!
OK, back to the seriousness – you did the right thing. I know it hurt. But you didn't give in to your emotions and you made the logical decision. You'll feel even better about it as the days progress.
Yes! Polite church hug is exactly what it was!
Wow – way to go girl! Nice, strong, quick – and ultimately you won a little that day.
