giddy little things

What stood out to me most Sunday night on my date was just how much I’ve been missing the company of a nice guy.  The intelligent conversation.  The little butterflies you get when you feel like you’re really hitting it off with someone.  Getting all dressed up and feeling beautiful…and then hearing him say it.

But what got me the most was when we were sitting next to each other at the bar after dinner having drinks and as we talked I felt his hand softly on my lower back.  It wasn’t too much, but just enough.  And it made me really miss the touch of a man in addition to all the other things named above.  Of course if I hadn’t been having such a great time and been wildly attracted to this man it wouldn’t have been cool.  But neither of those were the case.

I’d felt a little startled by it at first, as our physical contact had been limited up until that point.  But then I relaxed and it felt as natural as could be.  Just as it was on the way back to the parking lot in North Atlanta where I’d left my car when his hand naturally brushed over my knee as we spoke.

Or when I hugged him after getting out of the car and he whispered “I’m going to kiss you now.”  I giggled a little and let him kiss me once – quickly and shyly – before leaving.

I’ve known Mike for a couple years, so there’s a familiar comfort there that wouldn’t have normally been present on a first date.  But this was our first actual date.  We’d had drinks a few times in the past, spent hours and hours talking, but the timing has always been way off for us.  Not to imply that things are perfect now, because that isn’t the point.  It was a first date…something totally new to us.  And we both had a fantastic time, but that’s not to say that I’ve landed in place of thinking that this will be something.  I have no idea.  I’m just enjoying today.

Oh, and tomorrow, since we’re going to do it again tomorrow night.  I’m kinda excited.

Mike, who is 34, develops software for hospitals and is currently consulting on a project in Boston.  This means he flies up there every Monday morning and leaves Thursday afternoon.  He’s here all this week because of the holiday, so it seems we’re taking advantage of it.  He’s cute as a button, intelligent, a little funny, a great dresser.  And a perfect gentleman.

So there you go.  There are your details.

Glad you had a great date! His work schedule sounds exactly like mine during field season. Absence definitely does make the heart grow fonder.
