cupcakes and canvas

Last night I pulled out my Living Social voucher for Cocktails and Canvas and hit up their cupcake night.  It was a no-brainer to pick this night when I saw that the painting was a cupcake and when I read that it was a special event night to include cupcakes from a local shop I knew I had to do it.

eh.

Truth be told the cupcake wasn’t as bad as I’d expected…but it wasn’t spectacular, either.  The frosting was ridiculously sweet, in my opinion, but the cake was decent.  It was thick and heavy, but not dry.  I ate half of the mini.

The best part of the night was meeting someone who had recently become a fan of my cupcake company on facebook.  She just happened to sit next to me when she came in late and when I pulled out my business card to see if I could try to recreate the cupcake in my logo she saw it.  She said she’d seen my company on her news feed and followed me to get ideas.  Turns out she has a cupcake business in South Atlanta that she’s trying to get up and running, so we had lots to talk about.

One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about the cupcake business is meeting other women who are doing the same thing.  While you could say some of us are competition it doesn’t really feel like that.  I’ve had other cupcake bakers give me referrals for people who are closer to me and I’ve had others call and ask me for advice on setting up facebook and their websites.  In the corporate world it seems like women are so against each other, but since starting this venture what’s been most exciting to me is seeing how women in business for themselves seem to be the opposite – supportive and encouraging.  They want to see other women succeed and they’ll do what it takes to help you get there.  Awesome.

I’m not an artist by any means, but I do enjoy painting…and this little guy will be displayed in my living room, since there’s nothing pink in that room currently and every room needs pink.

cupcake!

You did a great job with your painting!

I totally agree with you concerning business. There’s enough to go around. Although whenever someone brings another cupcake around me I point out how yours are better ;-)

I have yet to make a trip to ATL in 2011, but when I do, I will be ordering some cupcakes! Whatever I don’t finish before I leave, I’ll just leave at my cousin’s house…lol!
