For quite some time now I’ve wanted to get properly fitted for running shoes. I have approximately 14 pairs of running shoes in my closet, but they were all purchased on the basis of being cute, not for proper fit or what’s best. Most of the stores specifically dedicated to running are far from me and I’ve spent many of the most recent weekends on cupcake stuff, so I hadn’t made it. Add to that the fact that until this week I’ve been pretty on/off with my running. Now that I’ve been stepping it up I’ve noticed how my feet feel as I run and my current running shoes just weren’t feeling right. Wednesday morning when packing my gym bag I decided to try a new pair from my closet, but this is when I realized that I’d still not been properly fitted. “Pink” is not a technical running term, nor does it help in any way (unless you count looking cute and I generally do).
Randomly today I remembered that there’s a running store not far from my office and decided that today would be the day. The Crazy Runner told me that I should wait until a day when I’m in my workout clothes and I scoffed at her. “Heh. I can run in these 5” heels if I want! A skirt isn’t gonna stop me!” She shook her head and I laughed.
So today at lunch I took a little field trip to the running store. I stood on the little i-step machine thing and it told me the size, arch level and pressure points on the feet. After that I ran on the treadmill for a little bit while they made a video we could watch to check for pronating. My right foot turns in a tiny bit, but not much and other than that it’s pretty neutral.
The woman helping me went to the back and came out with 4 different running shoes – New Balance, Mizuno, Saucony and Brooks. Two had pink in them and I really wanted to like them. I tried sooo hard to like those more than the other two (with shades of blue), but in the end the shoes that felt best to me were the Brooks. I ended up with the Adrenaline GTS 11 and I cannot wait to run in them to see how they feel.
I just wish they were pink.

Pink should completely count as a necessary feature of shoes. Pink makes shoes look cuter, which makes you feel and look better, which makes you want to run more. I think we should make it a technical running term. Maybe then I could get over the jiggling of bits that should not jiggle and actually run, probably not though.
your entire body will thank you. the wrong shoes are the worst thing you can do for yourself as a runner! i’m proud of you for going practical and not just cute. but you could always buy pink laces to add that little splash of color if you really needed to :)
You are frickin brilliant with the laces! Why didn’t I think of that?!
SMH at the pink. I don’t even care what color my running shoes are anymore. I honestly prefer black but I have yet to get a black pair. I’ve had red, blue, gray even gold snakeskin – if my brand of shoe is on sale and in my size I’ll buy it. I’ve been curious about that Brooks shoe since it shares qualities with my beloved Asics GT-2150s (moderate stability). The Asics work though so I’m just going to leave it alone.
This was my first full-priced running shoe!
And quit shaking your head at the pink, keyalus. It’s cute!
