corporate cupcakes

I just did the profit analysis on last night’s big order for my new customer’s clients – 30 boxes with 12 minis in each box and 1 box of 24 full size.  A total of 384 cupcakes in 4 different flavors with red, white and blue sugar on top.  Custom boxes.  Custom labels.  A shit-ton of mini cupcakes and a few that I considered my babies – the full-size box.  I love full size cupcakes.

Oh, so back to the profit analysis.  If you take out my mistake of purchasing boxes on Saturday that were too big for this project (a loss of $22.47 because I listened to the woman at the cake store), the tissue paper I planned to use inside the box to make it fit better (a loss of $11) and the time/gas I spent to go 25 miles out of my way to get the second set of boxes – I did pretty well on this order.  In fact, even leaving those items in the cost I did great.  Without the loss items my cost was only 13% of the amount I collected – this is WAY above what I normally get on an order (and I mean WAYYYY!!).  With the loss items my cost was still only 23% of the amount I collected and still less than half of my normal cost (of full-size cupcakes).

The main reason for this is the batter makes more minis than full size (duh).  They’re also a bigger pain in the ass and thus the cost justifies them somewhat.  The other factor is the small boxes I used are much cheaper than my normal pink boxes with inserts that are used for full-size orders.

So here they are:

30 boxes like this

Strawberry, Lemon Bliss, Chocolate and Red Velvet minis

label. i just had a panic attack thinking I may have spelled something wrong. my full-size babies.

my full-size babies. They'll always own my heart. Minis are like the evil step-children (not that step-children are evil...)

All in all a ton of work, but totally worth it.  I am so ready for the long weekend.
