I’ve always loved to bake, but never thought I’d actually be running a baking business. The idea of having my own bakery…well, it just makes me giddy, kids. Giddy. I started baking cupcakes with a friend about a year ago and when I realized I was too controlling in the kitchen I made the move to go solo…still not really planning to have a business, just baking for fun.
I couldn’t eat all the cupcakes I’d bake myself – hell, I was sometimes baking 2-5 batches a week to try out new flavors I’d think sounded good – so I took them to work. One day a woman in my office asked if she could buy some. BUY SOME?! Well, sure…and I set off to figure out how to price them. Next thing I knew I had a company name, a website, permission from my employer to operate an outside business, then a web designer to make my site cute.
I started doing free events for non-profits and charities, knowing that if people tasted my cupcakes I’d get orders. And it worked. I’ve done no advertising, it’s all been word of mouth or people trying the free cupcakes I brought to work or sent to work with my VP of Marketing, Mr. Delicious.
This was one of my first cupcakes… It tasted AWESOME, but looks so, so bad…
And less than a year later we have these:

The possibilities are endless, as are the lists in my head of new flavors I wish to try. I’m just getting started!

Ok, so here’s the problem. I am going to be in Atlanta and I definitely want to try your cupcakes, but which to choose? Hubby and I both love carrot cake. Then there’s coconut. I am a HUGE fan of coconut. And finally, there’s red velvet, which I have only ever tried once and I am dying to try yours.
Soooo, IF you happen to be making any batches while I am there, maybe you can make the batches bigger so while I am in town I can try a few different kinds and then swoon over them all over the place? ;) And I will probably order the carrot cake ones bc it is much better/healthier to eat cupcakes that have vegetables in them. ROFL!!!
Just an idea. Anyway I have to figure out how to email you because I really do need to figure out how to place the order for delivery to my hotel. ;)

Go with the coconut over the carrot cake. The carrot cake is just ok. My email address is on the website…the company website, not here. We’ll figure out something perfect for you! :)
That’s amazing, congratulations on doing this!!!! :) I’ve been hoping to do something similar.. I finally got my first “paid” work a little while back, but that’s been the only one.. LOL
That’s a great idea to offer to do them for charities and stuff… I’ll probably try something like that! Do you have any advice for other people that are starting out like yourself? (Well, you’re now more than just “starting out” hahaha, but you know what I mean!)
Hey Nikki! I sent you an email :)
Those strawberry ones look INSANE! I had to stop myself from licking my screen. True story.
